DAS recirc or Octopus recirc skimmer?

imo...the real question is aqua bee vs. octo and the winner everytime will be aqua bee. Out of the box DAS is the clear winner. it would take heavy mods for the octo to be comprable.

I don't know about "heavy mods" but if price means anything to you there is a wealth of information out there on modding the octo skimmers. If not then an out of the box DAS is a better choice.

I vote DAS. I have had the EX1 and the EX3. Great skimmers, But if your looking at Das Look at ATI too!

I am thinking about the EX-2, only $100 more than the octo 150 and I can still manage to fit it in my stand.

What LPH do the DAS pumps pull on the EX-2 and is the meshmod route get any gains? Are the venturi good stock?

From what I have seen, the price is similar. The EX-1 is 250 and the two pump EX-2 is only 400. In the recirc world that is darn cheap and that EX-2 seems like a steal.......

I consider these at least equal in price, if not better for the DAS. I will still mod anything possible on the DAS, but I was not looking forward to venturi mods on a recirculating skimmer like the octo's demand. THrowing some mesh on if it will help is a breeze, or possible a gate valve.

i just got the dual pump recirc octopus 250 for 509$ it wont take much modding to pump some serious air, and i like modding :) i really like this skimmer

You can mesh mod the das and get a little more out of it, But nothing major in improvements from what i hear. I have not done it because it doesnt need it. IMO.
They are well built, and i like them over the reef octo's.
I have not tested it, But i doubt you'll want to mess with a new venturi for it. They work well right out of the box. I have had 2 now and both have ran well for me.
The ex2 is a nice skimmer!

I think I will just have to get the ex-2. I see nothing but great comments on this skimmer wherever I look.

Decided on the EX-1 after managing to resist my "bigger is always better" urge.

I think it will be better matched to my tank size and moderate to heavy stocking @ 6 fish (seems just right with this efficient of a skimmer) and it fits better in my stand leaving room for the resevior I want to add. Plus I got to order it from ORCA and not petorama, which became important to me after reading some bad stories (ok, horror stories) on their service.

I am going to throw some mesh on it and let it clean up my CSS 220's years worth of leftovers. Should be quite a mess. I am also excited to start modding my new backup CSS skimmer, I need a hole saw. :D

dont mesh it in the beginning.. those pumps pull so much air, theat the neck might be unstable if you do.... out o the box, you will be grinning like i possom at how much air they pull.. let it break in, and run for long enough to get a performance/skimmate production review, then mesh it and see if the extra air actually makes more skimmate.
2 of those pumps will run the ae classic 400. so you know its alot of air.

Could you either provide a link or PM me with contact info? I have not run across this ORCA company before and a quick search didn't help. Thanks.

You'll be happy the ex1 is a great skimmer. Mine went to skimming right away, But needed a week to get really going.
