The concept of Don't Break The Chain (DBTC) is simple: Give out coral to people you think have a good chance at propagating it, with the hopes of further exponential distribution. Nothing is expected in return. No trades. No bribes:P

Three (of many) good reasons why:
1) decrease the demand on wild harvesting by promoting captive propagation
2) have a backup in case something goes wrong with your tank (it's inevitable)
3) get cool corals into everyones tanks and that makes everyone happy :-D

DBTC is not for free coral. If you receive, you have a personal obligation to propagate it and spread it around
DBTC is not a trading program

lots more info on what DBTC is about here:

I really really hope we can eventually make DBTC a center piece of NMOK.

With that, I have two pieces like the one below that I'd like to offer.
rules:

1) pick up at our Dec 4th gathering (bring a small cooler please)
2) must distribute to NMOK members 2 frags of similar size before you trade or sell it (and then they follow the rules etc :))
3) if my tank ever goes splat, I'm next in line
4) must have a tank journal that you can link to (I'm a believer in them fostering community :P)

Request away in this thread and please do #4

I'm interested in giving it a try. Things in my tank tend to take their sweet time growing though, so it may be while before I would have frags to pass on. Where is the appropriate place to set up a tank journal thread? In this forum?

Thanks for posting it! Looking forward to seeing it progress in time :-D

Dsepp, xmen: please bring a little cooler with you so that you can keep the frag warm :)

Big thanks to Gomer for working to start DBTC here in NM! Sorry this took so long. I put the frag in as soon as I got home last weekend but my skills at getting pics of corals in the tank are not really good. I have been working on getting a good pic. The best so far is one from far away.

You can see it (barely) in the middle there. I think it is a bad place for it since it isn't opening and will try to find something better this weekend. More pics to come as it settles in.

Gomer, couple questions (since you seem to be the guy who knows).

First, do you know how to make a post sticky? Seems like it would be good to get a short post going that just has a list of links to all the DBTC posts so we can keep track (once we get past the first few).

Second, I recall you had stuck the frag of the Acan down to the plastic container somehow when I picked it up at the meeting in Dec. What did you use to do that?

We can get a sticky, but are unable to edit any posts. I already checked into this.

As for the glue, it is IC-Gel (my favorite gel type super glue). Put some in the bottom of the dry tub, put the frag on top. Waited a couple minutes, then slowly filled with water. It set hard in about 10-15 min. I do this with when possible with frags (that and use little tubs). Less stress on the coral and minimal chance at damage from rolling around :) If I can't use the glue trick (like onsome SPS frags), I simply line the tub with section of plastic bag (old zip locks) and set the coral in it.
