I have a chiller with a built in de-ionizer, is there any use at all for this in a reef tank? I'm not sure exaclty what it is supposed to do as it's a japanese model and information is scarce to say the least. I notice the indicator light comes on from time to time when the cooler is in operation. Is there any advantage or disadvantage in running this? Is it a snake oil selling point? If it's going to upset the ionic balance in a negative way I will find a way to disable it. Thanks for any advice.

You can use google translate to get the gist of what it says, but so far has not been of much help to me.
