Dead Fish Everywhere

Well this morning when i woke up, my juvenille blue tang was on the floor. She's had ich and i couldn't get her out of the tank, so i hoped she'd make it, but she didn't. I shouldn't of had her in the tank anyways, i know. Won't do that again. Then my female clown died from the ich, and my blue spot jawfish is slowly dying as well. So, i'm pretty sure that my entire tank will soon be empty as far as fish goes, as the healthy ones are impossible to get out. I don't have a quarantine tank anyways, so i guess i'm screwed.

To look at the bright side though, once all the fish pass, :( , i can finally rid the tank of the ich the tang brought in.

All of my corals are doing great still, and my water parameters are all still good. Don't know what else to do but wait. I asked my LFS if they would take the fish, but they said they wouldn't.

Sucky day!!

I have torn a 280 completely apart from ick to get the fish out, I have a powder blue that was so covered in ick it looked like you dipped him in salt. Upon placing him in the QT he recovered. (along with the other 10 fish). The only thing I lost was a flame angel. Probably from 11 fish in a 55g tank.
Thing is go buy a tank and fill it with the current tank water, even thoug the ick is there it can be taken away with hypo. By doing this you dont have to cycle it. If they are still alive dont give up.

My blue spot jawfish just went to the big ocean in the sky.

Now i'm down to 1 clownfish, 2 damsels, a mysteri wrasse, and a wass's jawfish.

Will my sps or inverts be effected by any of this? All my water parameters are still great, just don't know what to do.

kawasaki00 - if my entire tanks is full of ick, and i have a DSB, ick will still be in there for a long time before it dies off right? Therefore, wont i have to keep all the fish in quarantine for 5 to 6 weeks, and that would require a whole seperate filtration system on the quarantine tank. This i can't afford. I appreciate the advise though.

Yes it will take 6 weeks of a fishless tank, to get rid of it. The corals along with the inverts will not be effected, they are not hosts. If you can get the fish out then it will be 6 weeks, if you do not get all the fish out it will always be there. I was in a panic and I pulled the skimmer off the main tank and put it on the QT tank just for the 6 week ordeal. i picked up a 55 at petsmart for 99 dollars, just remember if you get a qt make sure you paint all the sides but the front in black paint. Sorry to hear for your losses, I too have learned the hard way about QT. I really dont like doing hypo to every new fish but is a MUST if you dont want ick in the display.

You can pick up a used 29-75 gallon tank really cheap in the recycler want ads, your local paper or right here on RC probably for $25-$40. Just add some pvc fittings for the fish to hide in. You can do water changes from your tank water and soak an aquarium filter sponge in your tank/sump for a few days to let it get good bacteria to use as the q-tank filter.

The cost of the q-tank is less than replacing all your fish, plus you'll need it when you go to restock or you'll just have the same thing happen, which will cost you even more in the long run.

Don't just let all your fish die. That is not responsible reefkeeping.
