Dead hermit crabs

Every now and then I'll see a dead hermit crab without a shell. Do hermits kill each other for their shells??

hermitcrabs will kill eachother if you have alot of hermitcrabs and very vast shells.But if you have snails the hermitcrabs will kill the snails.

I was actually finding what looked like crab meat and claws around my tank. A few days later though I would count and still have the same amount of crabs. Give it a couple of days.
