dead mans finger

Codium, my codium. . .

Codium, my codium. . .

If it's the same 'codium', it grows like a 'gordian knot'. . . interweaved. Quite highly calcarous. . . so all but the most persistent tangs should leave it alone. Grows steadily and non-fussy in general. I picked up my parent stock from a LFS where it arrived by accident with some live rock. . . and grew to where it was starting to look like a 'display' item.

Not much in my experience. I've even had stray bits survive for weeks/months underneath a bed of chaetomorpha in my refugium. It also tends to serve as a 'barometer' for iron levels in my tanks. It's the first thing to start getting 'pale' on the new-growth when iron levels are low. Although if yours has the 'upraised fingers', it's a different-but-related species. Not sure what the differing requirements might be.
