Dead Rock

My fish in my new tank seem really skittish and stresed. Would it be ok to buy some dead rock from LFS and put in tank to give them some hiding places. The dead rock looks to be live rock that did not make it. Just sitting around on the floor in na box at LFS.

also, try to get themore porous pieces. Alot of LFS sell base rock dry like that, and it's not as good for filtering purposes. But will definatly offer refuge for a skittsh fish. 1/2 my rock in my 55g was dead dry rock, took about 2-4 months for it to color up nicely and finally get blotches of coraline everywhere. It'll end up just as good as any live rock in due time.

fresh or salt it dosent matter to much cause its already dead. yea if you can, a clean brush. if you have a little cheepo' toothbrush laying around you can scrub it down real good with that just take a good size pot and fill it half way with the water of your choice and do one rock at a time swish it around in the pot and scrub it with the brush under the water if your using freshwater i would just empty the pot and put clean water in it each time or untill it gets crazzy dirty.then if you have a small power head use the same pot and put a rock in at a time and just squirt the rocks down with the power head that way you can get all that bad crap off of it and you should be good to go. good luck!
