Dead turbo snail

One of my turbos has died, I was just wondering if should take it out or leave it in for hermit crabs to take the shell?

How established is your tank and how big is it?

If you have lots of tiny clean up crew like pods/worms/stars they will help eat the flesh and clear the shell out for you.

If your tank is newer, and especially if it is smaller, the flesh will rot and cause a possibly deadly ammonia spike.

In the past when I found a dead snail I removed most of the flesh with tweezers (oh the smell) then put it back in the tank to be cleaned and eventually used by the crabs without so much rotting snail flesh to cause a spike. Now I usually let nature take its course in the tank without removing any flesh.

Pull it out, FYI its gonna stink. Probably wasn't enough for it to eat in that size tank. Turbos get big.

Yep

There is NEVER a real/good benefit to leaving a dead anything in an aquarium..
So if you are aware of it and can get to it.. Then remove it..
Plain and simple..

Stuff dies.. fit shappens..

When you pull it out (if you haven't yet) be prepared for the worst smelling thing in your entire life. I recommend gloves.

Check if the brown stuff you have in your sand is dino or diatoms, if its dinos you have a culprit of your snail death. I lost about 25 snails in two montbs or so becouse of dinos.

Diatoms are dusty, they blow off like a powder if you puff them with a turkey baster or powerhead. Dinos are slime algae. Diatoms are common in new tanks. Is the stuff on your sand redish or maroon in color? If yes, it could be cyanobacteria

At 8 weeks in your gonna get all kinds of algae,I would export as much of the algae that I could and do a water change,I'm not an expert by any means but it appears your algae issues need to be addressed, snails die for many reasons, age, not enough food, predators,it's hard to nail it down sometimes, but definitely work on that algae!good luck!
