I need some help. I recently brought a leneatus wrasse and it died 5 days later. I wanted to see if anyone else had a wrasse die with similar symptoms as mine. Also had 2 filament wrasses die the same way.
I have a carpenter's wrasse and he is doing fine in my tank. So I know I can keep Labridae family of wrasses and I know they are very hardy. Tanks been up for over a year now and I have plenty of fish that are doing fine. If you need to know any more specs on the tank feel free to ask.
Basically the wrasses start out fine and even eats too. They go good for about 3 or 4 days then all of a sudden they start struggling. Usually the day before they die, they start to just sit in one place and act scared. No one is bothering them. Next phase begins with the wrasse loosing control of his tail fin. He can't use it and compensates by using all this other fins. From here it's just a matter of time before he looses total control over his rear section of his body. He is left with only his front 2 fins for control. At this point they just sit at the very top of the water column maybe an inch below the water struggling. Next the wrasse's rear part of the body sinks and his head is pointing towards the surface. His head starts to break the surface of the water going in and out. This is usually then end of the line for the fish. They usually die within a couple hours.
I seen someone with a case like mine long time ago. They were having the same issue with the fish loosing control over their tail. They place I bought the wrasses from are reputable RC sponsors. I've also bought other fish from them and they are all going strong.
Anyone ever have an experience like this before?
