How do you know if a snail is dead? There are three turbo snails in the tank, one is mowing away, one has not moved and cannot see any of his body from the view I have and the other one has moved a tiny spot and can see is body but no real activity for the morning. How do you know if there is a problem with them. Water parameters are Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 12, salinity 1.022 and temp 74.5. Thanks

Pick it up and smell it. You'll know if it is dead, trust me

reefkprrn - A little off topic but it looks like your salinity is a bit low. You should probably raise it by topping off with saltwater over the next couple of days. I would target 1.026

LOL! Definitely the smell will tell you! A dead snail will knock you out!
When you pick him up to smell him, if it isn't the worst smell you've ever smelled, he is probably ok. Put him back in leaned on the glass facing you. He'll pop back out and will attach to the glass if all is well.

yeah, i was gonna say what drummereef said, but your temp is a bit on the low side as well. but, what happened to the snails? did you just put them in? how long did you acclimate them for? sounds like you just put them in and their in shock--could be wrong. also, i know mine become more active in the evening, and don't really do much during the day. don't know if any of this helps but, just a few other ideas.

I will take care of the salinity issue with top offs as suggested. The snails have been in for 4 days. The reason I noticed is because they had been very active, then stopped for awhile, now there all over again. Thanks

No problems, mon. FWIW, I keep my reef at 80F. Your temp is on the low range which doesn't allow for any fluxuations downward. I would at least bump it up to at least 78F, slowly of course. I just find 80F to be a good number to target because it give you a little leeway for error either way.
