Death over night, what happened?

Hey folks, I woke up to a dead fish this morning in my 58 gallon SPS only tank. I'd like to use this post as a venue to determine what may have happened. I have 1 Cirrabrus Lubbocki, 1 Gramma Loreto, and 1 Synchiropus Ocellatus....I woke up to a badly beaten Synchiropus that was floating under a powerhead....dead, missing an eye, with shredded fins.
I have had the Synchiropus for two years and was seemingly very healthy, he ate PE mysis and New Life Spectrum pellets daily.
Other than the fish listed above (very small bioload), I have a pair of cleaner shrimp and misc crabs/snails that have been in there for months up to a couple years.
No new additions, no changes, just the loss of my favorite fish...
So, Did the fish get attacked and beaten to death? OR Did the fish pass away "naturally" over night and get picked over by the various crabs/shrimps?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I'm at a complete loss as to what may have happened.

Note: The fish showed no changes in behavior and was feasting last night at the last feeding, all was well.
I look forward to your replies folks.

Unfortunately, I think it's unlikely you'll ever know for sure. My bet would be that it died for some reason and was then picked at by your cuc. IME, that's the more typical chain of events as much as I can reckon. Sorry about your loss.

While I tend to agree with small alien, the only thing that might point towards fish aggression is a missing eye since that is often symptomatic of such an act. Of the current inhabitants none readily lend themselves to this kind of problem.
