Dechlorinator when dosing Calcium Chloride?

I am going to try raising my Ca up to par. It is currently 250 mg/L. My alkalinity is currently 3.5 meq/L and pH is 8.3. I am unsure of the magnesium, since the test kit has not arrived yet. I have read through one of Randy's papers on reef chemistry, and on the graph, my tank is in zone 3. Therefore, according to the paper, I should dose calcium chloride, but not any alkalinity.

My question is....Does dechlorinator need to be added to the tank after dosing to remove the free chlorine ions after the calcium and the chlorine dissociate? There is no livestock in the tank, but there are 100# of liverock. This tank is a 72 bowfront and has been running for 10 days. I used IO salt.

Thanks for any comments in advance.

Rich is correct, you do not need to add the dechlorinator for that reason. Of course, I am assuming you are using RO/DI water and not tap water.

The calcium chloride releases chloride (Cl-), not chlorine (Cl2). Chloride is already present at 19,000 ppm in seawater, and is the most abundant ion. Chlorine as Cl2 (or HClO- that it turns into) would be a huge problem even at trace levels, but calcium chloride contains none of it. :)
