Deep Sand Bed???

Not sure if this is the right area for this, but can you have a sand bed that is too deep? I am biulding a 40 gallon regugium for my 180 FOWLR and I have a bit of a problem with Nitrate and I am trying to reduce it. So I was thinking of having a sand bed around 6 inches in the refug, but after researching about it I have gotten some what confused. Some say that it does not mater and some say it does.

Any help would be very appreciated.

6" should be fine and far from too deep IMO.

I think on the home page of this site you will find a issue of Reefkeeping magazine that discuss DSB. Maybe somebody can post the link. According to the author 4" is the best depth and there is a danger of too deep of a sand bed.
