I am considering adding a dendro coral into my tank. Do they have specific needs? I know they are similar to Sun corals, but....
Do they need individual feeding or can they get what they need from the light and filter feed the rest from the tank water? What I am saying is that I cannot commit to feeding my corals as well as my fish.
Are they extremely light sensitive? Can they handle the intensity of my halide lamp? I can put them over on one side so the light is not SUPER bright, but I have no overhangs with total shade nor am I willing to keep it on the floor of the tank.
I am able to grow palys, calcium-based corals like hammer and trumpet, and mushrooms etc.

Is this dendro a coral that can survive in my tank?

I believe that dendrophillia (a type of tubastrea) is non-photosynthetic. That means that you have to target feed them a few times a day to keep them going for a long term.

My Japanese friend has been keeping both dendrophillia and tubastrea in her non-photosynthetic coral tank. All of her corals in it look beautiful. I don't know if they care much about light. She keeps her under what they call Super Cool bulb suspended high above her tank. I suspect it's like a deep blue DE metal halide. She says that feeding is the key to their longevity. She target feeds her non-photosynthetic corals like there is no tomorrow. I don't know how your other corals feel about the high amount of feeding....

They are non photosynthetic and need target feeding. Mine have done okay without feeding more often than every couple of days until now (have had one since August, and the other two for about two months). two still look great, but a third is not looking good at all. I'm increasing feedings, but most likely too little, too late for the one in trouble.
