Dendrophyllia Frags?

$90 a polyp is absurd. My local LFS was selling colonies (6-8 heads) for $100.

I got mine for my 5 at $40 a head.

If your LFS has them at that price you need to jump on them.

This last month was the first time I have seen them offered for sale.

My source has sold all except for big clusters of 11 or more heads.

Are you sure theyre Dendrophyllia? I dont remember if it was Borneman or Veron who wrote that Dendrophyllia is completely indistinguishable from Tubastrea unless youve looking at it on a microscopic level.

There are a number of Tubastrea that branch in a pattern very similar to Dendrophyllia. The price youve listed is obscenely low from real Dendro, and too high for Tubastrea. I would just be skeptical is all.

The prices for dendros are still by far cheaper than aussie acan prices but they are two different things.

Iron Chef, can you post pics of your dendro? Lets take a looky and see if its not a sun coral perhaps.

Canadian prices are A LOT lower then here in the States. I totally find it plausible that he saw a 6 - 8 head colony for $100...and that's Canadian dollars we're most likely talking so it would be even cheaper if converted to US dollars. I've been to a couple of LFS in Canada and couldn't believe how much cheaper they are then the LFS here Stateside.

I got these for 150$ on Monday!

Wow, that's cheap. It's a very nice colony. I got 1 polyp 2 years ago via a trade and it was supposed to be $130/polyp. I have a 20 polyps colony now. Dendro is one of my favorite LPS.

Shop around, Beware of the word rare.If someone has it, so does sombody elese. My local fish store owner has one word for people buying his over priced stuff. [SUCKER]

Surfsharkus, do you have good flow? With good flow, they should inflate up and extend their tentacles. Maybe with a few more feedings, they will open up fully for you.

Heres a good pic of when they are fully opened

Fully open even when direct sunlight hits them!
