denitrator and Crocea

I have a 75G that has nitrates of about 40. I am doing frequent water changes to bring them down but I have also been considering adding a coil denitrator to my system. From what I gather clams do need some nitrates to survive. Would the denitrator cause problems for me?

agreed, they'll eat up nitrates but I don't think they need them. I've never had measurable nitrates, yet have kept 5 clams for a number of years.

They'll take up ammonia first over nitrates.

I have two croceas and a squmosa. Been running a denitrator for 3 years. I've had no problems. Nitrates consistantly test 0ppm.

Clams will consume NH3? Learn something new everyday.

What kind of denitrator are you using Bandsaw and what where you nitrates before and after using it?

I think the company's name is Aquaripure ( http://www.aquaripure.com/ )

My nitrates were in the 5 to 10 range when I first installed it. I knew I would not be able to keep up with water changes with my job, so I took the chance on the device. Took about 6 weeks or so before a reduction in nitrates were seen. Once it kicked in, the nitrates fell quickly.

Honestly though, I'm not much of a DIY person, but I have read websites on building your own. They look pretty simple.
