DETANE's Mix Reef

DETANE

In Memoriam
Hi everybody, I'm new here to R.C. but not to the hobby.
Im here to help members as much as possible, and to trade coral as much as possible. I know a lot about the hobby, but I dont claim to know everything, so I use facts and data/research to support my claims and statements.

I started out many years back with a nano cube from jbj, and slowly learned more and more enough to move to a 55 gl, to a 75 gl, to a 180 gl, to a 300 gl, and now back to 180 gl.

And NO im not shy about showing people what i look like. Its good to put a face on who your getting advice and tips from.

180 gallon tank C.L's. Find

As I was browsing through C.L's. I found a 180 gl tank about a couple of blocks from my place. I got a great deal on the tank. I then began to build and work on the stand and canopy. Being that I studied to be an architect, I used my design skills and my construction skills, and went to work. I chose a Cherry stain to match my decor.

Canopy still drying

Canopy still drying

As you can see the canopy was still drying so I was stuck useing the weak Power compact lights. PC lights made things look yellow. The tank looked sp bare so I picked up more L.R. and fish from my LFS. Also took time to design and build a sump/refugium.

L.A.D.W.P. FORMULA for ELECTRICAL COST

L.A.D.W.P. FORMULA for ELECTRICAL COST

DWP FORMULA for ELECTRICAL COST.

1). AMPS x VOLTS (120) = WATTS
2). WATTS x HOURS = WATTS PER HOUR (ENERGY)
3). WATTS HOURS ÷ 1000 = KWH (KILOWATT HOURS)
4). 0.07288 (RATE) x KWH = COST

EXAMPLE:

250 watts x 8 hours = 2,000 (total watts per hour)
2000 watts ÷ 1,000 = 2 KWH
.07288 rate x 2 KWH = 0.14576

So your payin 14 cents every 8 hours of use on a 250 watt fixture.
0.14576 x 3 = 0.43727 . So your paying 43 cents for 8 hours.

Hope this helps somebody

Live rock....

So after many long months of trying to find large LR pieces at a fair price, I found some.
I took out a little over 400lbs of LR out of my tank and replaced it with the LARGER boulder pieces. Edit~dc
