Devil Hand Question?????????

Okay I have a question. I got a devils hand from a friend that was neglected. I put it in my tank and it went from softball size to soccer ball size. It shrinks back to softball size at night but as soon as the light comes on it expands back to soccer ball size. I am pretty sure that is normal but I have not seen any polyps in two months. Does that mean it is dead or do I just have to give it more time? Any feedback is appreciated.

its definitely not dead, a dead coral will be rotting or deteriorating. They can be very temper mental though. They love very intense light and good water flow with a slightly high alk. If the alk is too low they tend to get yellow or burnt tips. I started my devils hand under pc's when I fist got it about 4 years ago, It had great color but no white polyps, then I moved it to being under 250 watt halides and what difference, it was completely polyped out and growing like mad. And yes they do shrink and expand a lot between day and night. Good luck with you coral, I hope this helps.

Mine Mine does that every night. They love flow and light. I have two of these now. One large and one small one.

Sounds like its loving your tank if it expanded that much. Makes a great beginners frag as you can snip a small finger off and add to rubble.
