Today I noticed a slight brown tint on the sand in a couple of spots and close inspection showed small greenish-brown 'eyelashes' on the glass. Lots of them. Is that diatoms? I know my algae has been picking up, been getting some green/brown fuzz on the big flat rock closest to the lights but now I am seeing longer brown hairs on the rocks lower down.
Is this the diatom bloom beginning? I hope so heh. Would prefer that to an algae outbreak. Tank is only a week old but it was started with 22 pounds of fully cured live rock and 20 pounds of live sand. All in a 24g Aquapod.
Don't have a test kit yet for the water params, going to take a sample to the LFS tomorrow and have it tested. If it comes back good I guess now would be a good time to pick up some snails? Currently only have 2 hitchhiker hermits, a Mexican blue and Mexican red, and boy those guys are industrious. They have grazed nonstop for a week!
So I guess my params aren't too out of whack if they are active and my hitchhiker Kenya Tree seems to be healthy as well.
