i was wondering i just started corals two days ago. i got 2 really small mushrooms. i didn't konw you had to start your corals at the bottom and work it's way up. i started it already in the middle of my tank but it's on the top of my rocks. did i just fry them? should i move them down in the sand?>

depends on the lighting you have, if it's very low lighting, then starting at the top is just fine, if it's MH's in a smaller tank, may fry em if they don't get moved. Mushrooms are very hardy and I doubt you killed them after a couple days. Just move em if you have too, it probably wouldn't hurt to go ahead and move em to the lower regions of the tank and work your way on up if needed, or alternatively, raise the lights higher up from them and work them back down over the course of a week or two.

Nemo, mushrooms will occasionally close up for days on end, this is a normal occurance and nothing to worry about. I would not fear death of the mushrooms unless you saw one actually turning into brown jelly and rotting away, as long is it's intact, shriveled up or open, it should be fine. Now if it refuses to open up for long periods of time, I'd get the lighting and flow fixed so that it does open up properly.

Just out of curiosity, what type of lighting are you using on that tank?

No worries, shrooms along with gsp are probably the most hearty corals imo. Unless they are totally white "bleached" there shouldn't be a problem. Even then they would probably come back just fine.
