Did I make a bad move on snowflake clowns?

I am a newbe here and always was intrigued by clownfish. I was on the search for a pair of true precs but when i was ready to buy them from the lfs they were all out. I usually dont get my fish from petco but over the past month and a half i have been eyeing a pair of snowflakes they had there going to $50 each. noone seemed to buy them and they were in their own separate tank alone. well i went there a few days ago to find them on sale for 45 bucks each and they looked healthy with no sign of ich or nipped fins and had them feed them. so i spoke to the manager and got an extra 10% off. i got both for 80 bucks. did i get a good deal? they are loving my tank and showing great personality. they come right to the front of the tank right when i walk into the room. they are my main show pieces in my tank now. thanks for your input.

I doubt that petco will have snowflake clowns. There is one that i know of but that ones exceptional since the specialize in saltwater. I could be wrong but a picture will soon tell. If you did get it heck yeah thats a deal. They dont go 500 for a pair but you get the point.=D

I just read around and the real snowflakes does go between $300-$500 a pair. A picture will tell if yours are really snowflakes. By the way you are not the only one that comes down to this question others have to and they also claim to get it from a pet store not specializing in SW

super snowflakes can fetch $200 - 4250, but a semi snowflake can be had for 100 or so.

if you got them for 80, then you got a great deal on snowflakes, semi or not.

there are plenty of local breeders that breed Snowflakes and plenty of LFS that buy them (for far less than SA & ORA sells them for) and therefore Snowflakes (semis) sell commonly now for around $50 each...It is most likely that if you did get Snowflakes that they are local bred semis and therefore you got IMO a very fair price...

my bigger concern for you now is the fact that Petcos use a shared filtration system for their SW tanks...I presume you didn't inspect all the other tanks for Ich (or the like)...If you didn't QT them before putting them in your DT, I would keep a super close eye on them...

Either way, congrats on your new clowns and I look forward to seeing them :)

PS, sign up with Photobucket...it takes 2 mins and is a must have in this hobby when utilizing the forums :D

I've seen regular (non-premium) snowflakes at the Manhattan Union Square Petco. I looked at the store's invoice, but don't remember if they come from ORA or SA (the store regularly gets orders from both). They were 2", appeared healthy, had a fairly large amount of white, and blue starting to come.

They are probably semi-snowflakes. But still a good deal if they are doing well and healthy.

They do; they're the real thing too ;) Most are standard; very few semi-snows.

I hope you QT'd them. The Petco I go to a lot always says they are from ORA. Their tanks are ich farms. But I guess if you QT them properly before putting them in your DT it dosnt really matter where you get them from.

Hi everyone im sorry i havent gotten a chance to get to post yesterday...girlfriend forbids me to do anything that has to do with fish when im with her but i will post pics up in a few minutes. I just have to make a photobucket account. I did QT them in my cousin's QT tank for 2 and a half weeks and they ate the same day i got them in there as well as at the store before purchasing them. they are now in my DT
