Did my old clown kill my new one?

I had a pair of clowns for about a month, they seemed to be getting along and sharing an anemone. Then one day I came home to find one missing and never figured out what happened. So I get a new clown and after QT add it to the tank. The two clowns never really clicked, they would both stay on different sides of the tank (20g). They were together for just over a week and I come home to find my hermits eating the new clown. Now I have a cleaning crew of misc hermits and a few snails but nothing that I believe is fish aggressive The clown seemed to be doing perfect the day before didn't show any signs of being ill.

Hi.
That sounds really frustrating with all the problems you are having. Have you read any litterature about adding new clowns to a tank?

I think in order to help you best, it would make things easier if you answer these questions below.

what speices of clowns is it?
How big is the one you have in the tank?
How big are the ones you are trying to add?

The best of luck to you

What ever 8220 said and also are the hermit big?...

I remember having a pretty big hermit... he would sit and wait for a small fish the size of a clown you would say... when it swim right over him. He would try to snap at it and sometime he would get it... so it may not be your old clown but it might be your cleaning crew... Good luck :D
