Did my Reef give my QT a parasite?

28G FOWLER

I use my fowler as a QT. When I bring in a new fish I run copper at .5 mg/l for the first month as a prophylactic treatment.

I had a yellow eye kole tang that was in the fowler for the past two months that I decided to move to my reef. After about 5 days in my reef he was showing signs of a parasite. Cloudy eyes, and a white film over his body. I trapped him out and put him back in the fowler. Brought the copper back up to .5mg/l (I have a copper test kit) In two days there was no sign of improvement – I started to also added Para Guard.

The white film continued to get worse and after two more days the kole tang died. I had added two doses of Para Guard, but stopped. I added 10mL each dose. Since them I have done a 20%wc last week and another 20% yesterday. I have since read that there may be interactions between para guard and cupramine. I've added carbon back also

It’s 7 days later and in my Fowler a Blue tang is now showing signs of disease. This is a fish I’ve had for 1+year. I do not see any external issues, but he is ‘wacked out’ - not eating - trying to constantly swim up/out of tank – swimming upside down- high stress.

I am wondering if my reef has a disease. I know that ~18months ago I did have issues with tangs in my 90g reef. A few tangs died and the rest I trapped and moved to a QT and then that’s when I set up the fowler.

However, I did not get all the fish out of the reef but the only way was a full tank breakdown, and that would have disrupted my corals too much. In the reef there is still blue&yellow chromis as well as percula clowfish and magenta dottybacks. All have been doing well this past 18+months. I suspect I need to take on the task of getting all fish out of the reef, and keep it without fish for 3-4months.

I just don't know if this blue tang is having medication interaction issues and I should treat or do more WC. It's a bit frustrating as I hate watching fish die. My believe is that this blue tang is having issues with the drugs interactions. I'm going to do a 90% WC tonight and refresh the carbon.

However, - what do you think this disease is? - Just the tang/surgeonfish seem affected in my Fowler and reef. No other fish shows any signs. My best guess is that it is Brooke and that the fish in the reef just have lived with it.
