Die off of clowns - Qs?

I am looking for some insight on what happened to my 2 1/2 week old clowns last night. The clowns are oscellaris and were in a 10 gallon tank. There were about 35 - not a very sucessful hatch to begin with. Less than half of the nest hatched and many died in days 1-2. What was left seemed to be doing well however. They were eating BBS and I was weaning them to dead foods. Water quality was an issue, of course, and I added a sponge filter from the growout system last night. Then in the morning all 35 are dead, maybe one or two have some movement off the bottom.

I am insanely busy right now, so my husbandry is not up to par. This is probably batch number 18-20 from my pair and I thought I was getting the hang of this (not too bright). What I am looking for is some ideas on what I might have done wrong. Is there an optimum time to add a sponge filter to the tank and cautions I should have taken? Did I deplete the O2 in the water? PH swing? Maybe just the shock or sudden fright? This is something new to me, although I have lost my fair share of larvae for other reasons. I just don't want to do this to the next batch of 200 seven day old larvae that is sitting next to the now empty tank.

IME, my clowns tended to fair alot like yours did until I turned up the airflow and turned it up considerably

Yep oxygen and water flow, then filtration, it doesnt take long for a tank to go off especially if you start feeding dead foods.
