Difference between starfire and regular glass

I just had a tank built for me and asked for it to be made from starfire glass, but the tank still has a green tint to it. Is this normal? If you look at the edges of the euro brace it looks more green than the edges of the main panels.

Thanks
Robert

starfire will look blue if you look at its edge? what did you pay and where did you get it?

Starphire glass will still have a hint of green but much less compared to a standard glass. Here's a pic of the edges of my starphire tank. The left (actually back) panel is much greener than the right (side) panel.

True that the camera angle might have something to do with it but the difference is just about the same if looking in person.

Hope this takes away any doubt about your new tank. BTW, carefull because they scratch much easier than regular glass.

I've owned a couple of starphire tanks (one from LeeMar and the other from Inter American). Neither ever looked blue to me.

Did you ask for all Starfire? If so that's rare. If it's not all starfire you would see an obvious difference in the panes.

So if the edge of the glass is green, does that mean it is tempered? OR how do you tell if it's tempered?

Steve is correct. Most major manufacturers will only do starphire in the viewing panels only unless you specify. The back, bottom and braces are normally done with standard glass.

So if the edge of the glass is green, does that mean it is tempered? OR how do you tell if it's tempered?

I'm not a glass expert but I'm sure the answer is no. I recently visited a glass shop and asked the same question. They tell me that you cannot tell just by looking at the glass. Unless of course it is stamped as tempered.

Done under 14000k lighting. Can really tell the difference between the starphire panel and the regular glass at the edges. From the front of each panel, ehhhh, can tell a little.

here is a pic of my starphire (180g) tank. maybe sometime in this life time i'll set it up. my understanding is that if it's starphire it should be blue and if it's non starphire or low iron it will still have a greenish tint.

Thanks for all the reply's. Mines definitely not starfire, compared to all of your pictures. My edges look similar to saltyDDS pictures. It must be just low iron glass then, because there's a definite difference between the bracing and the main panels. I have to go back and complain tomorrow, see if he'll credit back the extra I paid for it. I think I'll just keep the tank, I don't want to have to move it again, that wasn't fun. I'll just have an excuse to get a new(bigger) tank later.

Thanks,
Robert

yeah like i said it looks blue.. at least that pic above looks blue to me... ken (konadog) tank is all starfire... all panels look blue..
