Difference in 420nm and 460 nm?

Can anyone explain the difference in these types of bulbs?

I think its preference. Both are in the blue spectrum, just one is more bluer then the other.

doesnt one have more of a purple look while the other is a nice cool blue?

420nm == more purple,

460nm== more blue

colors will pop out more under the 420nm

For me I always liked the 460nm better! it made my greens and reds stand out much more then with the 420nm! go to a LFS that has the PC demo and check them out. Corallife all use 420nm and are a dull blue. Current USA use half and half and colors pop much more!! JMO...but go check it out for yourself

I have both on my tank right now and I switched them on and off just to take another look, just to make sure of what I was saying...

the 420nm makes the blues / purples / dark reds show better

the 460nm makes the reds / oranges / greens / yellows show better
