Dinoflagellates

Curious to know what are ways to prevent dinoflagellates in a mixed reef? I see a lot of threads on how to take care of outbreaks but haven't found any on preventing.

Turn your light off.

lol but seriously, Generally Dino grows in very clean water. But I have seen it in phosphates over 3.0, and nitrates over 160. I'd say probably the best prevention would be running a UV sterilizer. Often the addition of a sterilizer will reduce, sometimes even eliminate the Dino.

Yes I've read that article.

I'm just speaking from my personal experience. confirmed with a microscope that they were dino, then treated accordingly.
