dipping/feeding new zoa's

hello,
I'm getting my first zoa's. I'm very new to them and am trying to read up as much as possible. I have a few questions.
1. From what I've read everyone dips their new arrivals using Lugol's? how many "dips" are necessary?
2. most quarantine new additions - how long- 1 week?
3. Does anyone feed their zoa's? if so what product do you use? how often and is it spot feeding?

Thanks much

Hello Mikesin, good questions.

1. I dip all new arrivals only once, that is unless a see something suspicious, or, if I see a bunch of unwanted host/predators coming off during the swooshing process. At that point I might dip again but briefly.

2. QT is advised from 1 to 3 weeks, it all depends on whose philosophy you ascribe to.

3. I feed once, maybe twice per week. I feed Coral Frenzy, no spot feeding.

i dip all new zoa's with Lugol , about 5 dip per gallon and inspect them.

i dont have a QT so they go in after.

i feed once maybe twice a week with plankton and cyclops-eez with a turkey blaster.

after a dip does it usually take a full day to recover? i'm asking because i dipped my paly in tap water for about 5mins and it was still closed before i went to bed.

Occasionally yes, but this is not the norm. If the dip is perform correctly in the proper conditions your polyps should begin to open within minutes to a couple of hours. For me, very rarely, I would say less than 5 to 10 % of the time does it take a colony a day or more to open. By the second day I've had complete expansion.

NOTE - A word of caution, NEVER dip Paythoa Grandis, they will begin to perish almost immediately.

one last question please - I'm receiving some People eaters, These are NOT to be dipped, correct?

Thanks again.
