I got mine done as college credit though VCC. Its just the cost of the 3 credit class and then some sort of lab fee. They do the checkout dives down in west palm and when I went it was 2 two tank dives. I dont know if they are still hosting/teaching it, but the class was run by jim hollis scuba.

I was certified 12 years ago and its still valid. they recomend you take refresher courses if you dont dive a lot or just to remind yourself. Most of the refresher courses are more of a quick class lecture followed by two dives so its kinda fun anyways. I got certified in the keys so cant help you as far as local area goes but I have heard it is a little cheaper to find private instructors sometimes and not through a college, that way your not paying to recieve college credit. Have fun, its a cool hobby to get into.

I dont know if its still the same, but when I did it at VCC it was cheaper to get it through the school than for a class. The reason is that floridians pay about 1/3 of the actual cost of college credit, the rest is subsidized by the government. So if a credit hour....edit, heres the dirt

PEN 1136 2 credits

School Year '06-'07
$69.69

so, for $207 you get the classes and pool dives. I think they supply everything but fins, snorkle and mask. Then the cost of the checkout dives, but those are normal price and you will go with the people that are in your class and was in west palm when I went through it.

in longwood there is a place called squba diversions - guys name is kevin - dont tell him i told you this - but he is a awesome easy teacher, but kind of a stickler for the rules - he wants to know that when you go diving your not going to look like a idiot and tell whoever you go with that you were trained by him - if that makes any sense - my girl is going to go also and maybe a couple of other people from here - so try and let us know if you decide to get it - its alot more training and times to meet - but its worth it in the end

i so want to do something like this.. how do those schedules in longwood work into a schedule with a typical work day sort of schedule?

i looked up the info on vcc and couldnt find anything about when the next classes start and so on-all i could find was the course overview :-/

There is a dive shop in lake mary that I believe does them, also a private person in deltona I think its called Extreme Watersports or something....I'll see if I can find the page.
