[DIY Build Thread] I have made my decision on a show tank... 180G of Awesome.

My journey began with a realization. :spin3: Every tank I have ever set up and maintained has been small and served only the purpose of keeping my livestock alive. Never have I had a show tank that I would happily invite fellow reefers in to see. I have had great success over the past few years in this hobby, but nothing to show for it today. All my recent moving and struggles have left me starting and breaking down so many tanks. :thumbdown

So it begins, my road to a prized show tank. Frags galore, beautiful specimens, and if the tang police allow, a few tangs :hmm3:. Build will be slow at first, money is tight. But, everything, I promise this, will be DIY. Overflows, stand, hood, sump, etc.

So join me in my journey of blood, sweat, a lot of tears, and having a hard time sharing the vodka with the fishes. :furious:

SO LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
  1. Find the tank.
    • Show sizes I have... 90g, 240g... Found a 180g long on Craigslist.
    • Too afraid to set up the 240 because it's drilled in a manner that would be hard to use. For sale by the way!
    • 90 is big but might be in that "Not big enough!" category. :spin2:
    • 180 option.. Hmm comes with stand... FREE?! Step 1: DONE:hammer:.

:fish1:TO BE CONTINUED...:fish1:

Good find, Im picking up a 180 long tnak today off craigs for 100 so maybe we can build ours together =)

i think imma do a predatory tank in mine, till i gather all my reefing equipment =)

No i might attempt to drill it cause i got it so cheap, but not sure id like to drill it i just never drilled a tank. Unless you wanna build me som DIY overflows =)

I'm actually going to be doing unbreakable siphon overflows on mine, and hiding the plumbing with framing behind the tank. I'm not much of a confident driller, the tank isn't brand new quality anyway. In the future with another tank sure. It's my first overflow/sump build so I want everything to be changeable. Everything will go from concept to completion here so if you want any ideas, poke in.

Yeah if you need any help hit me up im always down to help and learn a few tricks, it will be my first sump setup as well
