diy chiller

The problem with it is no temp control, and it has a resevoir where it sits and cools... not optimum for our application. Plus there is stainless in there that will eventually corrode and possibly cause problems.

I have but I used it on a hydroponics system. I got a mechanincal temp controller that spliced into the cord, and used a remote resevior because there was copper in the original plumbing (not good for nutrient solution as well as corals) and it worked great. I think when it was all said and done I spent 50$ for an awsome chiller. I saved a lot of money is because I got the water cooler for free.

The water coolers are only good for about 250-500 btu/h

That translates into 785-1570 Watts of heat removed

That amount will barely keep a 60g tank kept in a warm room with the pumps running cool, If you don't need lights.

I see that you have a 90g reef. You'll want to either have someone build you a chiller or buy a readymade one

Just my $0.02
