I purchased a 156 gal tank yesterday and it came with a DIY led lighting setup...it looks like it's not all hooked up and was wondering when I get closer to having setup ready if someone with more knowledge than I in this area might be able to help me sort it out...from what I understood it was a DIY led setup roger made ImageUploadedByTapatalk1417377310.545030.jpg

The controller is a piece of junk, but it works (or at least did last time I fired it up. Have you tried plugging it in? If you have and it doesn't work, I would guess a some of the solders might have popped off the leds during the trip. That is an easy fix if it's the case.

No I haven't plugged it in yet...I don't have much experience with this type of setup so just seeing who knows what before I start messing stuff up lol...yea a few are off but like you said easy fix just wanted to make sure I'm hooking the right stuff up to the right spots haha...I'll have to do some online research on the controller and how to use...my understanding is this won't work without a apex or equivilent system?

It should work as is - just works better with an APEX. If you want to run it I would recommend upgrading the controller, there are a lot of good DIY options now that CrazyEyes can probably tell you about.

The typhon does 4 channels, if you have more than 4 you can pickup a coralux storm controller with a case for $80 + shipping.

I'm not really sure how many channels it is...I'll check all the connections and grab a soldering gun and plug it in and cross my fingers lol

Setup is at new house and I'm hoping to get tank soaking tomorrow and going to sand ,replace bottom plywood and paint stand next week and finish plumbing and fill it up and do aquascaping shortly after

Yes, I used it for a year or so. No issues really - they are pretty intense, it would have been helpful to be able to dial the lights back a bit more, which is why I would suggest replacing the controller at some point if you want since the one now is hard to adjust.

I had SPS and everything growing under it though.
