DIY Led Moonlights

I have an Outer Orbit by current light fixture and my white and blue LED's are old and worn out. I have had issues finding replacement panels in there and I have seen some small high output Blue LED from places like radio shack......what is the difference in these high output LED's and the ones that are in something like the IceCap Moonlight retrofits? What about the new LED high output christmas lights?

the christmas ones may do ok but the radio shack are great, many DIYers use them and have great looking set ups and they are cheap....also at times they will put em on say for only a few cents....as far as their out put goes as long as ya get the highest out put ones then there isnt any difference between em IMO

Yeah the dude in Centerville at the radio shack electronics store said he charges like 3 bucks a piece for them and Chris thought he could drill my fixture and wire them all off the old LED's that are crap

what are your trying to do just a moonlight or something to make your coral pop. if so the best for the $$$$ are Cree XR-E Royal Blue for pop if you just want leds for moonlighting any type of royal blue leds. but try get USA made LOL. the one from overseas are "like a box of chocolates" you never know what you may get.
Also be careful which blue you add for colour pop.
you will kill your coral. JMO

also there some members that have done there own diy light fixture.

Does the manufacturere of your light fixture not have replacements? The ones in my AquaticLife fixture went on the fritz, and they replaced all 4 modules free. They were simple to replace too. If you haven't done so already, I'd call the manufacturer, turn on the charm, and see if you can get them to get you replacement bulbs/moduals. :)

Those LED strips they had at Emerald Bay were pretty cool. And if I remember correctly, they had sticky tape backing - so they could probably be simply "stuck" to your existing fixture. Although, I don't remember how much they were - I think they were reasonably priced.

They weren't super expensive, but I don't know if they would be enough to penetrate her tank though....She needs something a bit stronger. They'll be all right for moon light, that's about it....

they are 50 bucks each and scott showed me them with all the lights off and yea they are bright and they show be strong enough to hit the sand bed jen......you might can get away with only uusing 2 strips but i'd use 3 in ya tank...but ya can buy one and see how it looks and if its not that good just return it for credit...im sure ya can use anything there at EB lol

If your just looking for moonlighting then crees would be too much unless you put a dimmer on them. Not to mention how expensive they are. The most bang for your buck is the string of 90 blue leds you can get on superbrightleds.com. I have them they are great and priced right I think they are 40 bucks for the leds and power supply.
