i want to post the plans for a DIY sea swirl, honesty I'm sick of those companies charging hundreds of dollars for something that wouldn't cost more than $30 , but before i do that i need some advice on should i do it or not, would i be facing any legal issues here,

I think it's Ok, because human can create everything. Don't stuck your idea. I'm support you, because not all the people can buy the aftermarket product, and we must responsible about coral to do the best to keep all the coral alive.

There is not patent infringment, if that is what you are concerned about.

P.S. -Many others have posted designs before you ...

I dont think it would be a issue if only for personal use. now if he was selling them that would be a different story.

It would be a great post, I love them but would need three for my ideal set up but the cost makes it out of reach.

Post it in the DIY forum.. I'd love to see it as well.

I also have a plan for a C-swirl but I have no time to do it. I'll give it away, hopefully someone can get an idea off of it.. Basically it involves a flexible hose tied to a bar with teeth, and a DC motor doing the push-pull motion. The driver circuit is an oscillator that is based on the 555 timer that reverses polarity every (x) amt of time, which is controlled by a pot (varistor). I really wish I have enough time to even draw the schematic.. I'd love to share it w/ everyone as it will save you guys tons of money.

thanks for the feedback, I'm not making any money of this, i made 2 of them for my tank and i been using them for 4 months now, i think many of you already know about the swirls and how they work, but it's not easy to copy something from a picture or find the parts you need to make your own, however i did find these parts a lot cheap and more available than i could have ever imagined,

a 1 rpm disco ball motor $12 on ebay, and a $5 plastic box from radio shack, and some PVC fittings about $6 in total, I'm making a detailed semantics and blue prints and will post it in the DIY section by Friday night

thank you

Good job I can't wait to see them!
I wave been thinking about drilling my acrylic tank and this would be a great addition.I would like to see a detail of the shaft/seal through the plastic box? Not to mention all the rest? Impeller?
Thanks in advance!
