I am considering attempting a DIY RC skimmer and had a few questions?
It would most likely have a 6" PVC reaction chamber with the total height set to fit under my stand. I was looking at basing the plans on this one

First, what impact on performance does the diameter of the tube going into the collection cup have? Looking at the ER this is based off it appears that it has a 3" tube going to the collection cup (using my "calibrated" eye on the picture it appears to be half the width of the skimmer body) while the one built at the above link was 2". Is there a rule of thumb on this?
Along the same lines, How far from the outlet of the reactor chamber does the tube need to extend? Is it purely based on the collection cup size (i.e. 1" below the cup lid) or does it need to be a certain height to get good performance?
<sarcasm>Now for the fun</sarcasm> (and I apologize for this in advance).
It appears that there are 3 reasonably priced needle wheel pumps easily obtainable that people seem to be using sedra, Gen-X, and Ocean Runner. For my purposes I think I'm looking at the Sedra 5000, OP 2700, and Gen-X 2400. Has anyone used all 3? If so how do they compare in terms of Performance and Quietness?
As a follow up if you use the OP 2700 what are you using for a venturi for it since it doesn't appear to include one?
