DIY Skimmer

Bigred

The Truth
Here's a picture of what I have done so far. It's going to be a total of 30.5" tall and the body is 8"tube. I going to run it with a Oceanrunner 3700. The top from the stretched flange to the cup isn't glued yet. I'll post more pics of the build once I get my Phototshop program.

we built a jig to stretch the sheet of acrylic out and hold it. we also used a heat gun instead of putting it in the oven.

I have been working on it for 3 days now. I started flaming some edges today. I burnt one so I have to sand it back down again. I got my Oceanrunner 3700 today and it didn't come with the intake venturi and the out put connection. I have to call them tomorrow and see if I can even get them separately.

Would be really great to hear about where you acquired parts, etc....the craftmanship looks fantastic!

I can't really say where I got the parts because they're not vendors here.

Great design, and excellent craftsmanship!

Similar size to my own, but FAR more visually appealing. Looking at my DIY hack-job skimmer actually hurts your eyes...

that is some really awesome work there..very professional...you should sell them.....I wonder how well it works?
I would love to see that thing in action

these pictures are of it running for a week in fresh salt water, then i dumped my skimmer cup into it and it started pulling right away.

here are some pictures of it in action, sorry none of the venturi because its a design me and red have been working on and we don't want it getting out too soon.

So does that mean that you are planning on making some for sale at some point? If so, I would be interested. My skimmer was barely working, got a new pump, it died & I am now skimmerless. Will be in the market for one as soon as I save a little cash.

Frizz, what kind of skimmer do you have and what kind of pump are you using?

That skimmer does look pretty cool. The OR3700 is an amazing pump. I have one and it's pretty incredible. I like to know what venturi you are using. I wonder if it would improve my pump.
