When i had a reef aquarium i wanted to build a spectrometer like this to see exactly what are the colors of the light spectrum of the lamp.Manny 14000 K bulbs made by different manufacturers difer in spectrum.Somme contained more green light than otthers somme contained more red and so on.Now i dont need a lamp for my new ,dark aquarium but i thoght il share with you this idea of making a simple spectrometer from a compact disk and a carboard box to see the spectrum of your lights.Check the link if youre interested . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ1xOWl5Axk
