Do all puffer fish puff

Hi

I have a blue spotted puffer. Will it puff up in the same way others do? I said to my gf I thought it wouldn't and she was like well why is it called a puffer fish haha

They do when they are frightened or spooked. Puffer fish "puffing" isn't a good thing.

Thanks for replies. Don't worry, we have no intention of making it 'puff'. Guess my gf was right.... Daaaym, she always ends up being right haha

I once had a friendly puffer. I never saw him puff up until one day I entered the room and from the other side I saw him puffed up. I walked over to get a closer look and he was so happy to see me he deflated and started begging for food. So after that I suspected he puffs up when alone and in the mood.

My green spotted puffer puffed up one time when I booped him with top end of the sand vac he was a slave to the current and couldn't swim much I felt kinda bad but it was hilarious to watch a ping pong ball with eyes float around the tank
