do all wrasses FLASH?

OK i heard a lot about wrasses FLASHING. what exactly is "flashing"? do all wrasses do it? if i bought one flashers wrasse..will it flash? thanks all

You're thinking of flasher wrasses. fwiw, I have a bannana wrasse and a sixline and I've never witnessed them "flashing" at all. May be a more common occurance with the actual group of flasher wrasse's.

Yes I think they all flash, although in different ways. Flashing is just a show of aggression.

Flashing is either the fish glancing off of rocks to relieve an itch (normally ich) or when it goes from 0 to 60, so to speak, while swimming. Wrasse by nature are a very fast swimmers when they want to be, but the six-line that I have doesnt flash... he does move quickly from time to time.

okay, from the research I did last night, flashing is when they protrude their finnage and display themselve in an attempt to attract a female, which are typically not as attractive as males.

Yes but WHY do they flash? I have no females in my tank and my 1 and only flasher wrasse (an exquisite wrasse) seems to be flashing once every few days or so. Is he looking for a mate? Or is he just saying "I'm the dominant wrasse in here, la la la!"

My sixline flashes constantly, especially when I clean the glass and it can see itself. Does this behavior mean that it is a male? "He" sticks out all his fins and looks into the glass sometimes twisting "his" head to the side. I've always thought this was flshing, but never really took the time to look it up.
