Do hermits pair?

Perhaps a silly question but i have two scarlet hermits which are inseperable. I hadn't really thought much about it before but they are always together no matter where they are in the tank. One was sitting right at the top annoying a coral, the other next to it but not on the coral, so i put it on the sandbed. The next day they were back together again.
I know things like harlequin shrimps stay close to a mate but is it the case with hermits at all?

They are the only two hermits in the tank so perhaps they get lonely, lol

cute. or one could want the other dead. i used to have this larger hermit who would constantly follow around and harass a smaller hermit. this went on for years. don't know why he didn't just kill him.

Hermits are very social with other hermits.. until one thinks his buddie's shell is bigger and prettier and kills their friends for shells... hermit have some strange real estate...

They are very comic sometimes with their actions and behavior.. I picture them as the clownfish of crabs.
