Peacock tank, it used to stay at around 78-79 in my old area with a heater to make sure it never went to low (I was in a cold room near a datacenter)

Had to move my desk at work and am by a window now so get some sunlight and the temps are alot higher, first thing in the morning it is 79f its 2pm now and at 82.6f (highest ive seen it) temp is only 75f outside today, but it can get to 110

Do I need to invest in a chiller? Do I need to mod in some fans?

Nano reef w/mantis is my goal, easy to keep soft corals/mushrooms.

I would recommend both options. First, turn the heater up to 80-81, then if you see the temp going higher than that, add a fan or two. I think a chiller would be overkill. Just my 2 cents.

82.4 right now...

It has 2 fans that come on when the white light is on, The blue light is on for 16hours and the white light for 8-9 (basically from 8am-5/6pm)

I would add some venting to the hood- and add some small fans. A chiller would not be a good option- as they kick out heat when they run. I can't imagine that you would like to be sweating while watching your mantis relax in perfect comfort.

Add circulation will increase evaporation- but I would rather have to top off more than have temps that high.

What kind tank/ hood do you have?

83.5f today

Going to go to radioshack and look for a fan to mod this with
If I cant get it down to 79ish I think I should tear it down 8*(

that is REALLY cool how you have it setup under the monitors, but I bet that would add a signifigant amount of heat for 2 reasons.

1) The monitors put out a little bit of heat, and even thought it rises, the ambient temp around the monitors is probably a few degrees higher than the rest of the room
2) The monitors don't allow for good airflow around the tank. So, even if the monitors don't put out much heat, the heat from the tank isn't able to escape to other parts of the room.

Honestly, I think your best bet would be a small fan (4" to 8") somewhere on your desk pointed at the tank. This will allow fresh, cooler air to continually surround the tank and hopefully help to vent the hot air from the hood away from the tank.

The best part is, that should be a $5 fix. Hope it works.
