HI, My 90g is about 4 months old. I run Bioballs in a small sump with a skimmer. This is a FOWLR just because and I did not know this but corals are pretty hard to come by in the aquarium hobby in Hawaii. If fact possibly illegal?? Well thats for another thread.

Anyway my question is can I take out the large sponge that runs the width of the sump. I guess its supposed to trap bubbles. But my skimmer is right next to the return (after the sponge) so Im thinking the sponge is not doing much. Problem is I need space!! Want to run a reactor do to high phosphate.

So you guys think Ill be ok?

you should be fine. if it were the floss that traps the ditrus from getting to the bio balls then I would say leave it as then the bioballs become a pain to clean out.
