Do niger triggers eat corals

I want to put a niger trigger in my reef, the only things that i don't want it to eat are SPS,snails and tridacna clams, experiences and observations please.

Niger triggers eat some benthic invertebrates, such as crustaceans, sponges, and tunicates. Corals aren't necessarily on the menu, though sometimes they may be sampled (like any triggerfish). However, this species is primarily planktivorous.

Anyone actually try one or have one in their reef?, They are a very common fish at the LFS's here, and I thought that they would only bother crustaceans.

I do, I have had him for about 6mths I've never seen him nip anything hes in my sps tank i have a lot of snails and blue legged hermits and a few clams i have never seen any type of aggression from him other than being overly excited when he sees me coming to feed the tank they are planktivores in nature

Some are fine, some are not. It seems as they get bigger, they get more crazy. Even if they don't want to eat your coral, they could tear them apart for something to do.

Try and get a bluethroat or sargassum.

Niger triggers aren't reef safe. The snails, clams, and SPS are all on the menu. ;)

Not necessarily. Nigers are very unpredictable, and I've seen some that are just fine in reef tanks with all of those things, and for a relatively long time (more than 5 years).

Some of them will eat everything above and more. Even more than most species of fish, it REALLY depends on the individual. If you put him in, just be ready to catch him if necessary.

yea i was actually thinking about the same thing, i want to put one into my reef as well but i think a 92 would be too small and im def not trying to pay big money for a fish as i am just a student

My friend has a blue throat and pink tail and is about to add a niger as well to his reef. He offered to bail me out if it bothers my clam.
