Do you actually QT your fish?

I know you are supposed to but do you actually do it? Why or why not? I know patience is key to this but 9 weeks in QT seems a little long.

Fish Disease treatment section will have a lot of info for you.

Yes I QT all fish. If I didn't, I would have wiped my entire tank 3 times now. And the last time I bought a fish locally, it supposedly went through a "full QT session". Which I highly doubt. Fish died within 3 days. Had velvet symptoms.

Haha nice name. Yeah see this is what I was getting at. I know that some lfs in the area quarantine their fish for us but your experience is quarantine anyways?

You've heard the old adage that " If you want something done right, do it yourself." This is the perfect answer for qt. You control med, water params and stress levels(hopefully).

I QT everything. I have live rock in a QT right now to knock some of the aiptasia off it.

I QT everything and prophylactically treat cupramine and prazipro. If the fish appears healthy I treat 2 weeks prazi first and then 4 weeks of cupramine. I ramp up to full strength cupramine over 4-7 days. It helps if you can get the fish settled and eating aggressively before medicating, but sometimes that isn't an option if they come in with disease.

I don't QT or acclimate. I inspect the fish/coral and make sure its all eating well. I will probably setup a qt as my investment grows. I never acclimate (I make sure temp is about the same), everything goes directly into the tank and I haven't lost anything this way. Drip acclimation always seems to stress out the fish more.

I don't put many (or any) fish in my systems, so the DT is fine after temp acclimate (float) for me. I drip acclimate all inverts, shrimp for as long as I can (2-3hrs usually).

For coral I temp acclimate (float) then put in a bucket with shipping water, adding 25% tank water, then 25% tank water 15m later, then 25% tank water and remove 25% bucket water to drain 15m later (do that twice). I add dip to the result (ReVive) at half-dose and agitate for 5m then place in low flow / low light in tank. Turn lights off if coral is coming from overnight shipping.

I sure hope you QT & Acclimate in the new setup. It's just a matter of time before the bad comes

I want to setup a holding tank for observation in the future. As for acclimating, I have had great success with putting things directly into the tank (making sure temperature is the same). I also get most all of my things from Reef monsters because it is just up the road from where I live. I know that they keep their coral tanks at 1.025 and their fish at 1.020. I usually will keep my eye on a few pieces for a week or two and check the progress before I buy them. I like to think that i'm using their system as a qt per se. If I order anything online I will be sure to qt it for weeks. I don't think i'll change my acclimation since it has been working so well.

Another question to ask is:
Do you QT fish that you purchase from local reefers (here on RC) that are getting out of the hobby and are selling everything in their tanks?

Don't quarantine but do get some info before I buy a fish like how long have they had the fish is a big one. Usally wont buy anything they have not had at least one month and is eating readly

Side question to separate the hardcore:
How many QT inverts?
If so, are you maintaining 2 separate QT tanks?
