Do you refreeze leftover frozen food?

When I feed mysis to my fish, I only feed enough that they can get from the water column. If they let it sink to the sand bed, I stop feeding. It is ok to put the leftover back in the freezer right? They only get frozen once a day. The rest of the time, they eat pellets.

Would you refreeze a steak and then eat it?

Mysis should be a nice tan color. If you refreeze it it turns a much darker brown and the nutritional value plummets.

i just pitch it.

that said, i only pull small amounts every 1 - 3 days, so there isn't much waste.

i was even weighing food for a while to help me get a better idea of how much i should be thawing. that helped quite a bit.

Kinda hard to take out only 15-20 mysis from half a frozen cube.
I never have left over steak, but I do freeze left over Thanksgiving turkey if I have too much of it.

it doesn't lose nutrients, refreezing anything uncooked, especially meat, will degrade the quality due to the loss of moisture in the thawing process. Thats really not a concern with mysis shrimp because we defrost in water anyway.

So to answer your question yes you can.

just one question, how long do you leave the food out. just like with human food, bacteria will grow on the mysis shrimp when defrosting. Fish have bacteria in there guts to handle this, but leaving the food out too long can cause fish to get sick.

this is especially important if your every going to keep sea horses

i stopped using the cubes a while back and started buying the flat packs.

the cubes are too much junk. for whatever reason they seem to have way more nasty shrimp juice and parts frozen in to them.

i buy the largest flat packs, but they have several sizes. it's WAY more cost effective that way.

think as far as juice it depends on the company. some have more than others. i did find the flats cheaper. i pay 3 for 20 buy me.
