For some reason I ordered Ball Valves on this tank and never used them in the past.. Over thinking maybe.

Since I asked that question. Does anyone pull the pipe out of the overflow and let the over flow drain or would that be bad for the tank? Note: Pump would not be on at that time. That is why I was thinking I need the ballvalves under the stand but I don't really see the need.

I have a ball valve on one and a gate valve on the other (the hardware store didn't have 2 of either so I got one of each). I got them just in case there was some adjusment needed. They are wide open all the time.

I can't think of any reason to have a drain pipe with a valve. You never want to restrict it at all and even having it there is some restriction.

On the overflow box, I have a 3/4 and a 1 inch that I use both for drains. The 1 inch is on a durso and the 3/4 is w/o a pipe. When the pump is running it overpowers the 3/4 and comes up and uses the durso on the other. My thinking on that is that by having the smaller one draining down low it will help keep detrius from building up in there. So when I hit the feed cycle and the main pump turns off the whole overflow box drains.

I was not sure if that was hard on the tank having the overflow box empty while the rest of the tank was full.

In that case I have 2 - 2" Threaded Ball Valves I can now get rid of.

i put a ball valve off my overflow. just in case i would ever need it.
comes in handy when i need to start the syphon again.

I have valves right at the tank on every bulkhead, "just in case". I figure if I ever need to modify or fix a leak or whatever they are there. Cheap insurance in IMO. Now is the time to install them easily too.

That's my thinking as well.
