Does anyone know anything about this coral?

But that picture looks fishy to me. It looks more like those corals were touching and then pulled apart. I'm no expert but doesn't that look like damaged tissue on the hynophora being pulled away? Granted.. in that case the other coral still lost the battle. Am I wrong????

It's definatley Hydnophora, maybe Hydnophora microconos. I am not sure though without seeing it closed up. I have had a few species like it in my store. Where you have it placed is where I have the most success with them. they can easily be affected by other corals such as euphyllia corals and even some zoathids.
Hope this helps you out alittle,
Nick

I dont doubt at all that its real. Thats a great shot of a combination of mesenterial filaments and stinging tentacles attaching the Acropora. Thats exactly why you have to be careful with Hydnophora :D

That's exactly what it looks like when my carpet hydnophora (which is what this thread is IDing, IMO, stings the everliving **** out of things around it. There's nothing fishy about the picture, that's exactly what happens. Fortunately, another coral has to be exceedingly close to my colony for it to murder the neighbor, within an inch or so.

hummmmm, I better keep an eye out on mine. It is growing quite large and really looks healthy. I'm assuming they are weed like eh?

Regards,

Pat

Yep, grow pretty fast.
The digitata I put next to mine (1/4 inch away) last night is TOAST, and a perfect picture for everyone's enjoyment.
