Does anyone rinse frozen food?

Just wanted to ask if anyone rinses their frozen food before feeding the tank? If so what is a good method? I have never rinsed mine, but recently read this is a high source of phosphates. Well I have been battling phosphates for awhile now so thought I'd try rinsing the food to see if that helps. I thought about pouring it through a filter sock, but don't know if I would loose a good portion of the food.

Any ideas or a method that works well?

A filter sock works well. Just add the food inside, run some RO/DI over it until thawed. Add to tank. Hopefully you'll see a decline in your phosphates.

I think I have a 300 micron filter sock laying around some where I could try. I new the mysis would be ok, but I feed a few other types too that sometimes break down to smaller pieces. I will give it a shot though.

I thaw mine out in a small container, then I strain out my mysis or other frozen food through a brine shrimp net and rinse before feeding.

The latest Coral mag did some tests and it seems that many frozen foods are high in other things besides phosphates. Things like Vibrio.

I was told by my LFS (an actual knowledgable one) to rinse my PE mysis in water before adding it to the tank due to all the oil that is on it. I really can tell a difference when I don't (the skimmer really does shut down for a while).

To those that rinse: What brand/type of food are you using?

I've used Hikari mysis for years, holding the cube in the water for the tangs to eat from and shaking it as it melts so tha the less aggressive fish get what's blown around.

I tried Piscene Energetics mysis, and they are so much bigger, and the color is like night and day. I think Hikari packages to a different set of standards. No hard data, but it just looks like clean pre-rinsed mysis.

I also make my own prepared food, and also feed that with tweezers.
