Does anyone use a hang on tank refugium? I need something to grow macro in and to reduce nutrients. Don't have room under tank for one. Thoughts, input, comments appreciated.
I have a 2nd hand one I got off ebay. Was about $55 shipped w/ a maxijet pump. So far so good, I have some chaeto in there I got for $5 and a bunch of little pods. Also have a little 13w light over it that I got on ebay as well.
I have a HOB and a week after hooking it up the nitrates went to zero and the macro in there is out of control. I am always trimming it. Well worth it.
I used a CPR for a while. I liked it alot, but the acrylic cracked and I haven't replaced it, as that tank is going to be turned into a QT as soon as I get all the inhabitants to a new tank.
I've got the CRP Aquafuge, and think it's great..exept for the middle brace just broke last week after about 1.5years...It's still working just fine though...and I should be building a skimmer in it soon, so I'll repair the brace then..
What about an above the tank fuge set next to the tank? IMO hang on the backs are good for 30g or less but for a 54g might be a little small. Mine only cost about $50bucks. It's a predrilled 15g using a maxijet to pump water up to it and it gravity feeds back to the main tank. Here's a pic check it out:
my frined has a 12 inch CPR, and i helpe him put the pump parts together, the pump tubes didnt fit, we had to scrape it away wit hsandpaper, and scissors or just jam it in as hard as we could the pump is barely suspended
