Does anyone use powerheads on timers?

I recently added a mod'ed MJ1200 to my tank and the flow is incredible. I was thinking of ditching my remaining two powerheads and adding one more MJ1200 mod. With that, I'm considering having one on during the day and the other on during the night to change up the flow in the tank (with a possible overlap). With all of the additional flow it's also been tough to target feed, so I was considering having 30 minutes to a hour of no flow for me to target feed. I know that some people turn off their flow during feedings or use wavemakers to vary flow, but has anyone made use of timers to do it? Anyone see a problem with my "no flow" period?

I would be worried about small fish and inverts making their way into the pump while it was off, then getting shredded when it turns back on.

I hadn't considered that. Homemade blender mush. haha.
